Welcome to Indigo Yoga.
KING PIGEON Â Â |Â Â Raja Kapotasana
Start in Half Pigeon:
From downward facing dog, bring your right knee forward to the back of your right wrist; the outside of your right shin will rest on the floor. You are working your right shin to be parallel to the front edge of your mat, but it is more important that you stay square on your hips, not collapsing to one side or the other.Â
Looking back, make sure your left leg is extending directly out of your left hip. When and if you feel square on your hips, shoulders square to the front of the room, bring your torso forward and extend your arms forward toward the front of the room. After a few breaths, bring your torso up, lengthening your lower back by pressing your tailbone down and forward, and pressing the outside edge of your right foot and shin down in to your mat. If you can maintain the upright position of your pelvis without the support of your hands on the floor, bring your hands to the top rim of your pelvis. Push heavily down. Without shortening the back of your neck, drop your head back. To lift your chest, push the top of your sternum straight up toward the ceiling. Stay in this position for five to ten breaths.
To work into King Pigeon:
From Pigeon, bend your left leg and reach back and clasp the outside of your left foot with your left hand (you can also use a strap). Â Keep your torso elongated and begin to work your Back foot in as you work your right shoulder back to square your torso. Â Once this is accessible, reach your right arm straight up, bend your elbow and clasp you'd hands pointing your right elbow straight up to the sky. Â Continue to bring your right shoulder back and left shoulder forward to square your torso. Â Finally, clasp your left toes with your right hand, reach your left arm up to the sky, bend at the elbow and clasp your ties with both hands. Â Lengthen your torso and bend back from your thoracic spine lifting your heart up to the sky. Gently allow your head to fall back and touch your toes to the back of your head. Â Stay for 5-10 breaths and slowly release.
KATIE HURST
The way I would describe my life today is much different then how I would have described it four months ago. Four months ago I was just another heroin addict in rehab. I was addicted to heroin for about six years of my life and had come to a place in my disease where I was sick, spent, miserable and so tired of running. This was a place of complete spiritual void, disconnected from others and life. Within a few days in treatment I realized the blessing that treatment got me clean, I wasn't using, but now what?? Around this time Brooke and Indigo came into the center and into my life. I was so inspired that the staff would come in and volunteer to help those in need. I was immediately attracted to yoga, the staff and Brooke all had a sense of peace and love that I envied. I loved the class and would look forward to it all week. I was hooked... I loved that I was reaching straight up in mountain pose, reaching for something greater then myself and appreciating it. I loved the way they would describe facing my palms up as an invitation for this greatness to enter your heart. I began to look at the practice and realized that that's exactly what yoga is to me, a way to practice a certain way of life. Today I try to carry this way of peace and love with me wherever I go. I tell whoever will listen to try it, try yoga! If you feel like you are searching for something, you may not even know what "it" is, try yoga. My experience started with, well why not I have nothing to loose...and this helped me realize how much I had to gain. It was the face of love and peace. It was yoga for me. Whatever it maybe for you, or has been for you I hope that peace and love is found, that your able to lift your arms to the sky with an open heart, open mind and just breathe...
